Roberts Creek Trails

Roberts Creek trails are world class! Roberts Creek itself is a funky little community located between Gibsons and Sechelt. It is an outdoor lover's paradise and offers such diverse activities as kayaking, hiking and, of course, mountain biking.

Roberts Creek trails are truly spectacular trails for both biking and hiking. However, the trail builders here on the Sunshine Coast have really outdone themselves building amazing stunts and creating world class x-country and downhill trails for mountain bikers.

Every year, Roberts Creek hosts the Sunshine Coaster (previously known as the Sunshine Coast Rat Race) x-country and downhill race which takes place on these Roberts Creek trails (the downhill portion specifically uses Mach Chicken). As well, part of Day 5 of the BC Bike Race is spent on these same trails.

Most of the Roberts Creek trails are accessed off the Sechelt Roberts Forest Service Road 7575 Branch 02 (aka B & K Logging Road). This forest service road is approximately 9 km from Gibsons off Hwy. 101, just southeast of Gliff Gilker Park and Sunshine Coast Golf Course.

For information on logging in the Mount Elphinstone area check out this great website.

Below is a list of Roberts Creek trails. Please keep in mind that most of these trails would be hiked or ridden in combination with others and don't generally stand alone. Check out the map to see how they all weave together. Click on each one to go to the map:

2001

Trail Rating for Bikers: Most Difficult (Advanced)

2001 is a continuation (or start) of Pacheko Street. Someone has been in recently and reworked the wooden technical features so they are in excellent condition.

280's

Trail Rating for Bikers: Easy (Beginner)

This is really more of a dirt road that is obviously well used by atv'ers. Quite gravelly and pops out to the powerlines, but don't go right as you will run into private property. The trail to the waterfall branches off this trail.

Black Tower

Trail Rating for Bikers: Easy (Beginner)

This is one of my favourite Roberts Creek trails. No technical features really - it just swoops and flows downhill with some nice banked turns. Eventually takes you out to the powerlines.

Brodie

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

Just after entering the Circle Trail Brodie veers off to the right. A bit steep in spots, but a relatively easy trail that pops out onto Branch 04 of the logging road. Turn left and it's a short distance to Mach Chicken.

Caroline's Connector

Trail Rating for Bikers: Easy (Beginner)

Fairly easy trail that connects Upper Tube over to the top of the logging road spur or beyond to the oil cabin just below the Trailfest Wagonroad trail.

Charlie Brown

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

Old school winding trail that connects down from Branch 03 of the forest service road to Pumpkin Patch. It pretty much follows along a creek and has lots of rooty spots. Some of the wooden features have fallen into disrepair, but you can just ride around them.

Circle Trail

Trail Rating for Bikers: Easy (Beginner)

This trail is at the lower end of the trail system with its trailhead just 1.9 kms up the B&K. Unfortunately, it is being logged right now (June 28, 2011), but seems to be just about done. The trail is ok and changes to more of a dirt road that circles around to the start.

Cunning Stunts

Trail Rating for Bikers: Most Difficult (Advanced)

Okay, this makes all the other trails with stunts look pathetic! Just kidding, but it is an amazing loop de loop of continuous wooden features that even includes a suspension type bridge. Coolest of the Roberts Creek trails if you like stunts.

Here's a youtube video that gives you a pretty good idea of what this looks like:

B & K Dirt Jumps

The B & K dirt jumps is an area off the B & K. Great jumping spot for bikers.

DNZ

Trail Rating for Bikers: Most Difficult (Advanced)

Stunts, stunts and more stunts. Short trail, stunt-packed.

Dude's Bypass

Trail Rating for Bikers: Easy (Beginner)

Nice easy graveled trail that gives access to Janet's Jungle and beyond to the eastern side of Roberts Creek if you wish.

Gnome

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

Gnome is challenging at the start and at the end and fairly easy through the middle. Good way to connect to or from the Grauman Rd. area of Roberts Creek.

J.B. Connector

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

Short piece of trail just off the bridge from Up'n'Over to the top of one of the logging road spurs that you can take all the way down to the main forest service road or connect into the last section of Mach Chicken or down to Sleepy Hollow.

Janet's Jungle

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

Connects from Dude's Bypass down to DNZ. Some nice stunts, in good condition.

Kevin's

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

Kevin's is a little loop single track trail over near Mexican Jumping Bean, Up'n'Over and JB Connector. Makes a nice little add on over in that area.

Hwy. 102

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

Another of my favourite Roberts Creek trails and also the favourite, popular trail for many others. Particularly because it takes you from the Roberts Creek area trails over to the top of Sprockids. This makes the start of a great route, over to Sprockids, down through the park, out to the highway and back to Roberts Creek. Or you can swing back on the Red trail out of Sprockids. A good 2 or 3 hour ride and you'll know you've had a workout.

Hwy. 103

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

Hwy 103 is an awesome trail that is a great add on to Hwy 102, but even on its own it is worth the ride. It also gives you access to Viper, Red Baron and 7 Up. Beautifully treed all the way through. Also gives access to Westridge trail.

Lost'n'Found

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

Short little loop off of Pumpkin Patch. Couple of nice stream crossings.

Lower Tube

Trail Rating for Bikers: Easy (Beginner)

Continuation from Upper Tube that takes you down to Grauman Rd. Rated easy is is generally less steep, no banks and wide. Couple of rough spots and an area in the middle has been logged out on either side.

Mach Chicken

Trail Rating for Bikers: Most Difficult (Advanced)

Woo Hoo! This is probably one of the most famous Roberts Creek trails among Sunshine Coast riders and non Sunshine Coast riders as well. It is a mad, downhill ride. It was the trail for the downhill portion of the Coaster Race this year. A must do if you love downhill.

Medium Roast

Trail Rating for Bikers: Most Difficult (Advanced)

Another one for the downhill riders - who also love stunts. This is steep and should only be ridden down from Hwy 102. Each of the wooden features have names like Latte Launch, Fine Grind, Ring Stain, etc. This is rated Most Difficult.

Pacheco Street

Trail Rating for Bikers: Most Difficult (Advanced)

Parallels the B & K logging road with excellent stunts. Joins 2001 which then connects to Hwy. 103.

Patrick's Pass

Trail Rating for Bikers: Easy (Beginner)

Short connecting trail from Black Tower over to Pumpkin Patch. No stunts, just a wide, easy trail.

Pumpkin Patch

Trail Rating for Bikers: Easy (Beginner)

Fairly long trail that takes you from lower end of the trail system up to Charlie Brown. It's quite a wide, easy trail (other than the hill). The last piece before reaching Charlie Brown runs alongside a new clearcut area. Before that though you will see some awesome, huge older growth firs. Hopefully they won't be logged out in the near future.

Red Baron

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

Right near Viper, this trail also connects Hwy 103 to Branch 03. The sign is a plane that someone put a lot of work into. There are several stunts on this downhill run.

Rod's Rocky Road

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

This trail branches off the Circle Trail and connects up to Branch 04 of the logging road. Nothing particularly stands out good or bad. Just your run of the mill trail.

Seven Up

Trail Rating for Bikers: Most Difficult (Advanced)

Caution: Only for very experienced riders! Best access is off Hwy 103 as this is a steep trail and it is downhill from Hwy 103 down to the forest service road. This trail, which is a continuation of Seven, is basically just one stunt after another - and I'm not exaggerating. The real problem for the less experienced rider or hiker is that it is difficult to get around a lot of the stunts and in some cases virtually impossible. So if you can't ride the stunts it will be difficult at times to get around them and you'll be carrying your bike through the bush. Even hikers will have difficulty with this trail. I don't recommend hiking it at all.

Seven

Trail Rating for Bikers: Most Difficult (Advanced)

This trail starts at Branch 03 and takes you down to near the end of Spur/Branch NK Main. The stunts on this have seen some work lately and according to one of our local riders this trail rides pretty good now.

Shredder

Trail Rating for Bikers: Easy (Beginner)

Shredder is an easy trail that connects over to the Day Rd. area of Roberts Creek and gives access to the trail down to the Roberts Creek waterfall.

Sleepy Hollow

Trail Rating for Bikers: Most Difficult (Advanced)

Sleepy Hollow Great trail that connects between two branches of the forest service road. Some stunts along the way add some fun and if you don't do stunts you can easily ride or walk around them.

Susie O

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

Susie Q is a perfect connecting trail to get from the southwest trails over to Hwy 103 (or vice versa), which starts across the road from where Susie O's trail head is on Br. 02 of the forest service road. It is a wide trail with muddy areas, but not too steep of a climb up to the road (or down from the road).

Trailfest Wagonroad

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

Going east to west, Wagonroad starts near Up'n'Over and JB Connector and has about 5 distince sections where it crosses various logging roads and trail intersections. This is one of my favourite trails in Roberts Creek because its wide and shady and there are lots of little streams. Also it is a trail that I would enjoy hiking and biking. It's a great connecting trail from the eastern trails over to the western side because of the gradual climb and then access to some fun downhill via upper and lower tube.

Up'n'Over

Trail Rating for Bikers: Most Difficult (Advanced)

This extreme downhill trail is over near Mach Chicken and would be an alternate route. Some very steep areas. Connects at the lower end to JB Connector and over to Kevin's and beyond.

Upper Tube

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

Smooth and banked, this is a fun downhill trail that is suitable for less advanced riders as well as more experienced riders - the more experienced will probably just go faster.

Here's a cool video from You Tube that shows the ride down from the old cabin to the end of Upper Tube. Looks like a fast and fun ride down.

Viper

Trail Rating for Bikers: Most Difficult (Advanced)

Steep downhill trail that connects Hwy 103 to Branch 03 of the forest service road.

White Knuckle Tight

Trail Rating for Bikers: Most Difficult (Advanced)

This is a steep, tight trail that is an alternate entrance into Hwy. 102, from higher up Br. 03 of the forest service road (past where you can drive to). Not recommended for the beginner rider.

Wicked Ditches

Trail Rating for Bikers: More Difficult (Intermediate)

This is actually the end part of Br. 03 of the forest service road. It is really rough with lots of ditches from when the road was deactivated. Gives access to White Knuckle, Red and Yellow trails.

New! Comments

I began this site as a labour of love and in response to what I believed was a need to have one comprehensive website with detailed information about all trails on the Sunshine Coast.

So here it is several months later and I've had so much fun hiking, biking and gpsing nearly every trail on the Sunshine Coast. Along the way the site has gained some loyal followers and we would love to know your thoughts about this page, site and/or the Sunshine Coast...

So if you have a moment (and a Facebook account OR Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail) please leave a comment in the box below.
